LEVELS

There are levels to every task.

It isn’t in competition to another that I measure my level…..

Rather, the comparison is used to know what levels exist. What levels have I reached, what is possible?

Boxing is applied science- We use the other to measure ourself. Competing with the other is a mistaken mindset not just semantics. The external is fleeting while the internal grounds us in our action.

The study of punch mechanics leads one to the steps of self-mastery. For to put your effort into the body that can execute the mechanic flawlessly, by nature, one will have been put through hours of rigors. The discipline it takes to trust a process of centimeters, to fail often and enjoy moving through it. Picking apart the dynamics of throwing and running in order to find that sweetest leverage and the smoothest movement while punching is the magic we are going for, because it will be only when we find it that we can truly execute our plan of self- mastery in the ring.

Breath slow and steady filling my ears
Crowd noise dins to the blur they become as I walk through
Legs underneath me, body activated, alive, present
I see openings before they exist thwarting all attempts to steal my rhythm
The occasional break through punch never phasing my focus
Single-minded….I want to do what I want to do
My body listens and acts, seconds tick as my movement slides to the beat,
I double-time it, skip beats, tonight……everything is mine.
Victory before my hand is raised.
